The Malaysian government has recently introduced the i-Lindung program to help the M40s deal with rising medical costs.
This plan can be subscribed through EPF Account and targets those who earn between RM5,251 to RM11,819 per month.
According to the Deputy Minister of Finance, Lim Hui Ying, this program offers life and critical illness insurance at a lower price than the market.
This protection plan also covers seniors up to the age of 99, providing long-term health insurance.
So far, more than 144,000 EPF members have used the Prosperity Account to subscribe to this plan, making it a positive start.
The government promises to improve this program based on suggestions and proposals that have been researched by its side to ensure that it remains relevant and accessible to all groups.
This step is expected to ease the financial burden of M40 families while ensuring they get adequate protection ahead of Malaysia's status as an old country in 2040.
However, is this plan able to survive to meet the health needs of the people in the long term?
Or just a temporary solution to ease the pressure of the cost of living?
Only time will tell.
