The United States (US) stock index market fell on Tuesday as investors were wary of key earnings reports due this week with the main focus on artificial intelligence (AI) technology from NVIDIA on Wednesday.
The earnings report from NVIDIA is expected to be the most watched US stock market event this week.
Other major firms set to report quarterly results this week include CrowdStrike, Salesforce, Dell, Lululemon Athletica and Abercrombie & Fitch.
Markets are also looking ahead to Thursday's preliminary jobless claims and July's Personal Consumption Expenditure data on Friday to guide expectations for the next interest rate outlook.
During Monday's trading session, the Dow rose 0.16% to close at a new record high and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite fell 0.32% and 0.85%, respectively.
The move comes as investors shift from technology stocks to other less favored sectors such as energy, consumer staples and utilities.
However, other chip and technology stocks posted sharp losses including Nvidia (-2.3%), AMD (-3.2%) and Tesla (-3.2%).
